Expressive Arts

We have a thriving expressive arts offer, underpinned by our commitment to these subjects as discrete specialisms throughout Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

Our Music department offers a range of ensemble opportunities, including a Concert Band, Jazz Band and Choir; a Rock Band, Keyboard Group and Wind Group. Concerts take place at least twice-yearly, with smaller recitals organised periodically to build our performers’ confidence.

In Drama, a very popular Production Club develops pieces for performance. Students not only perform, but participate in many different ways, and Music, Art and Dance contribute to the productions. At Key Stage 4, GCSE Drama students conceive and perform their own pieces, often supported by a live audience. From time to time, the School comes together to put on a big performance – often a popular musical.

Dance is hugely popular in this school, evidenced by our fantastic annual Dance Show. Students prepare for this both in lessons and through a number of Dance Clubs – these are often led by our exceptional Dance Student Leaders.

As well as being the backdrop for many of our expressive arts performances, Art comes into its own through the annual Exhibition, which showcases our GCSE students’ achievements. An extremely popular subject at both Key Stage 3 and 4, Art also runs a number of extra-curricular opportunities, making the most of our specialist Art and Clay rooms.
